Where do third world nations obtain their national pride?

Friday, May 20th, 2011

It is easy to understand why larger, wealthier, older, or more powerful states obtain their pride. Top class nations such as the US, UK, Japan, and so forth have a variety of sources of pride (successful democracy, economic/military power, historical significance) and even regional powers and fast growing economies can also have obvious sources of pride.

But what about third world nations? The ones who produce gruesome stories of genocide, or famous for the failed corpes of attempted republics. The nations which completely depend on foreign aid and can be bullied at will by the powers. Where does their pride come from? It can’t come from historical significance, (usually) as many had their borders randomly drawn by Europeans and thus lack common history. They obviously can’t get it from having a functional political or even infastructural system.

Yet somehow, just somehow, these poverty stricken people are somehow able to kindle a small fire of national pride. How do they do it?

Does anyone feel just as depressed with their country as me (UK resident)?

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Everyday i seem to hearing more and more about how this country is going to pot.
Bankers who make our economy near enough worthless and leave us to stump up the bill whilst they run off to their tidy pensions and big savings they have been collecting from undenaibly big bonuses they received every year…
Children who are leaving school unable to read and write due to the shortage of teachers or teachers that are not eduacated enough themselves or too damn scared what the children or the childrens parents might do to them…
Lack of jobs –
Crimes that could easily be stopped if people werent too scared to do or say something without the threat of something happening to them ( just last week a man got stabbed and dies because youths were throwing beer mats at a pensioner sitting down the pub minding his own business ) but because this man intervened and said, can you stop doing that ,… he is now dead.

Im sorry for having a rant, and i know that there are alot of good people out there but i was just wondering if anyone else is fed up with their country as i am and wake up every day reeeling from whats written in the papers , heard in the news, but are somehow not at all shocked by it all ???

Give me one good reason why the UK should keep their British monarchy?

Friday, May 13th, 2011

When the “Prince” announced he was going to get married…The first thing that came to my mind was who is going to Pay for this Wedding. They are saying its going to be very big and very expensive. In a country with a suffering economy, they just raised the retirement age because the country is going broke..Tax dollars are going to be shelling out.

I just dont see just because you are born into something you are made King and Queen. Tradition? This is the Modern world.

In America this would never fly. Im so glad to be American where someone is not better then me, or has life taken care of by tax dollars because they came from a particular vagina. lol

WOW. Its not even my country and it kinda pisses me off lol

What say you?
Johnny the difference between is in America they are taking their parents wealth..Not TAX money
Jealous? I don’t think so

I actually feel pity for the people of the UK. Such a waist of money.

Why are these Democrats holding the Wisconsin economy hostage to their demands?

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

The buzz this morning is about this report in the Wall Street Journal, which says that the Wisconsin state senate Democrats who’ve fled the state are about to give up the ghost:

Sen. Mark Miller said he and his fellow Democrats intend to let the full Senate vote on Gov. Scott Walker’s “budget-repair” bill, which includes the proposed limits on public unions’ collective-bargaining rights. The bill, which had been blocked because the missing Democrats were needed for the Senate to have enough members present to vote on it, is expected to pass the Republican-controlled chamber…

…Mr. Miller declined to say how soon the Democratic senators, who left for Illinois on Feb. 17, would return. He said the group needed to address several issues first—including the resolution Senate Republicans passed last week that holds the Democrats in contempt and orders police to detain them when they return to Wisconsin.

Other senators deny this vociferously. Democratic Senator Chris Larson had this to say:

Sen. Miller’s comments are taken out of context in the Wall Street Journal article just released. Dems will return when collective bargaining is off the table. That could be soon based on the growing public opposition to the bill and the recall efforts against Republicans. Unfortunately, the WSJ fished for the quote they wanted, skipping this key step in logic: we won’t come back until worker’s rights are preserved.

No honor among thieves.
Yes, those senators sure are middle-class every day Joes.

How long will it take credit card companies to lower their interest rate now that the Fed has lowered their’s?

Friday, April 15th, 2011

I know that credit card companies aren’t REQUIRED to lower theirs, but they usually do, right? So can I call my credit card company tomorrow and ask for a lower rate, or should I give them a week, or what?
All I know is that about 6 months ago I called my credit card company and asked for a lower rate. It was at 13.99%, and after spending about 30 minutes on the phone with two very nice gentlemen, I was able to lower my interest rate down to 10.5%, and renew or something a promotional rate from 7.99% for 6 months down to 3.99% for the life of the loan. I asked them how often I could do this and they said whenever the rates change, I could call and ask – I might get it, I might not.
I just thought that I might need to give them time to get a new rate into their system, and with it being more than the .25% change that was expected, I thought it might take a little more time. But I’m not a financial wiz, or I wouldn’t be in debt in the first place.

Is Obama and Brown even trying to use their brains or what?

Monday, April 4th, 2011

We are going broke with what Obama is pissing away her in the USA and now Brown wants to have us bail out the freaking world? GORDON BROWN hopes to forge a partnership with President Barack Obama in Washington this week, to call for a “global new deal” to lift the world out of recession.

As he prepares for his first White House visit since the president’s inauguration, the prime minister has hinted that he is ready to make further tax cuts to boost the UK economy.

Brown will meet Obama on Tuesday and address a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. Aides say he has both to demonstrate to a sceptical British public that he commands the respect of the president, and to persuade the American political establishment that global action is needed to rescue the US economy.

Brown is under pressure to persuade American political leaders to sign up to bold aims for the G20 summit of industrial and leading developing nations, which is to be held in London next month.

Is it normal for failed societies to not be able to bury their dead?

Monday, March 28th, 2011

“I have not seen this many unclaimed bodies in 13 years on the job,” said Albert Samuels, chief investigator at the mortuary. “It started happening when the economy went south last year. I have never seen this many people struggling to give people their last resting place.”
