The Variable Market Of UK Jobs And The Impact On Local Economy

The working industry in the UK has undergone many changes in the last century as imports and exports have developed and the demands for various services have either declined or accelerated. In the early 19th century, employment was likely to based around a family business such as a bakery, butchers, blacksmiths or farming. Industries such as tin and coal mining were also predominant, but as supplies have dwindled, so have the jobs. Local communities were based around such industries and in their demise, there was a breakdown in the local community.

More recently, it has been the supermarket chains that are said to be responsible for further breakdown of community spirit and the local economy. As industries have been lost, other ways of supporting local economy has had to take precedence, and in the product price war this has manifested in low cost shops to keep the price of our daily bread low. It is it a vicious working circle. As people in the UK are working longer hours, time for family, friends and relaxation is a rare commodity, let alone finding time to pop to the local shop for bread, milk and potatoes.

In place of popping to the greengrocers, meandering to the bakers and supporting the local butcher, a trip to a supermarket is an exercise in time economics. However, the more people that shop in this way and don’t support the local businesses, the more those local little gems are likely to disappear. The cumulative effect of this is the loss of local businesses that have been in a family for generations. As business declines, product prices have to rise to pay the rent and rates and the less likely consumers that still have time to shop locally are able to keep up support. This leads to dead areas in a town’s community, urban degeneration, higher unemployment, with the only prospects of work being to work for an impersonal corporate name for minimum wage, making it even less likely that the local community can afford to support local business.

The false economy present in the major superstores exacerbates the situation. To make the products more appealing and to get consumers in through the door, basic products like milk, bread, potatoes and chicken are fixed in price in a way that does not reflect the real cost of production and supply. These practices are reflected in what is being paid to the suppliers of these major stores. Even when a superstore is using a local farmer to supply poultry to one of its stores, the farmer is often barely breaking even as the market makes competitive selling an impossibility.

Another factor to bear in mind is the import of certain products being a more economically viable option. This takes production possibilities away from UK workers as it is unfeasible for them to compete with the combined cost of products, transport and labour. Ultimately the local economy will suffer as money goes overseas as payment for trade as opposed to the community the shop is located in.

What is happening is a shift from jobs once being available in the UK, being taken overseas. In the competitive economic and job market and in the wake of a global online community, jobs can be outsourced for a fraction of the cost of employing a UK based workforce. This has been witnessed in the trend of call centres. Virtually unheard of 20 years ago, it became the new factory life in the UK, primarily because factory based industries had already been taken overseas; for example in the car manufacturing industry and processed foods packaging. Now call centres are based in countries where the labour is cheap, once again taking the money and employment away from those who live in the UK. It is a growing trend that needs to be bucked by corporate businesses being willing to support fair trade at home as well as abroad.

As Chinese university undergraduates for job-hunting with anxiety?however, British undergraduates also face the prospect of job-hunting, which is not optimistic. According to survey, economy depression and big unemployed population is the “work” sin chief culprit, which make undergraduates are anxious about their future. In this case, some undergraduates choose to graduate to ease employment pressure; some are forced to accept low-paying jobs.

The majority of students leaving university in coming months do not expect to land decent jobs, it was revealed, as the recession continues to have a “profound effect” on the employment market. Thousands of final-year degree students are preparing to accept low-paid work in bars, supermarkets and call centre, according to figures. That was amazing! Everyone thinks that get a good degree means to get a good job. But now, it seems wrong! Everything is changing.

As thousands of undergraduates take end-of-course exams this month, it emerged that only a quarter of those on arts and humanities courses were preparing to secure work in graduate professions. The disclosure came in a survey of more than 16,000 final year students – a fifth of those nationally – by analysts High Fliers Research. Despite of these undergraduates, some society workers are losing their job and become a job-hunter. That will make a big pressure for undergraduates, who without working experience.

It comes despite fears that graduates are facing record levels of debt this summer, with the average student being forced to repay ?18,100 for a three year course. Debts rise to ?25,700 in parts of London. How they pay? The rising prices force them to find a job as soon as possible whatever is high paid or not! They just want to support ther life.

The jobs shortage was blamed on a “substantial backlog” in the number of jobless graduates from previous years – creating additional pressure on the employment market in 2010.

Researchers said 8,000 extra job applications had been made to leading companies by the end of October as students attempted to steal a march on competitors.

It was also disclosed that thousands of students are preparing to take a postgraduate course as an alternative to finding a job. Some 26 percent of students will remain in higher education after completing degrees this year, figures show.

According to the study, 36 percent of students believe they will start a graduate job – or start looking for one – when they leave university this summer. But are they sure they will? Many difficulties in front of them, are they have strong will to insist until fins a good that satisfied? Good luck to them.

Numbers slump to 25 percent among arts and humanities students. Some 26 per cent of all students are preparing to move on to postgraduate courses, while a third will take “any job they are offered”, the study said. This suggests large numbers of students will embark on low-paid jobs in shops, cafes, call centre and building sites – failing to use their degree for many years.

What’s the main reason? All are social problems? Not really! On one hand, governments should carry out some rules to protect their rights and some preferential policies to help them. On the other hand, theses undergraduates should improve themselves qualities and skills in order to win more chances to get a good job! God bless you!

So whats your view? People coming into the UK illegally and legally i have seen a number of how many come into the country a day, its a lot i can’t back up my facts at this moment in time but it is is a LARGE number. You see the thing that frustrates me when i enter a shop such as McDonalds the person barely speaks English i can’t understand what they are saying, i spent over 4 months searching for a job. I am in college now with 4 As and 4Bs and a few Cs an A in English and History! YET i couldn’t get a job for a very long time, i am very confident i acheived an A in drama, it was the factor these jobs are too full. So i speak full english and i couldn’t get a job? The whole concept of the Credit Crunch, what about our economy all these people coming into our country we are paying for them through taxes, these Polish are claiming benefits! Its a disgrace, we can’t afford to pay for them when we are struggling to pay for ourselves! Those who are born in this country should get at least some choice over those who aren’t, THEY HAVE THE MONEY TO GET HERE, WE DON’T HAVE THE MONEY TO LEAVE. There are Muslims over here complaining about not enough Mosques, or temples, they expect us not to put up Christmas lights at Christmas because its against THEIR RELIGION. WHAT ABOUT US? IS THIS BRINDIA? NO! What about in India, do we get Churches there? What about us saying NO to Ramadan, how would they feel? Our prisons are mainly made up of black people? Do they originate from Britain? NO THEY DO NOT. Its time things got changed! We need to save our economy, as much as i love foreigners our country is being destroyed! We need a strong leader, if things don’t change in time, i promise to those in faith we will a political party on the right wing spectrum AND SAVE BRITAIN. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.

With all the troubles with the economy people are doing whatever they can to get by. They are taking on second jobs or just odd jobs to get extra cash to spend. I read that many companies are now hiring mystery shoppers to basically rate and evaluate their customer service and how well they perform their job. There are actually hundreds of restaurants,stores, and different organizations that are actively seeking individuals in the UK to rate their services.

I traveled there last year and stayed with an old friend to catch up on things. We walked around and she had a small briefcase. While we were checking out the different sites she would take me into different stores and discreetly observe how the customers were being treated and if all of their needs were tended to. In every store she would make a purchase and watch how the cashier would handle the transaction and see how respectful she was. After she would make her observation she would document what she seen and what was purchased and file it away in her briefcase.

Out of all the jobs I had I could not believe that you could get paid to observe companies and make purchases. She told me that all the money she spends on products she gets reimbursed to her after she submits her report. The time we were roaming around she purchased a few snacks,two shirts,shoes,makeup,and a curling iron. Her getting all that stuff for free was just crazy considering she was getting paid to do it. She said that all Uk Mystery Shopper Jobs are like this and they actively need more people.

After all the shopping was done and we finished walking around. She took me to this really classy restaurant. It had elegant music playing and the waiters were extremely polite. After we are seated I take a look at the menu and notice that almost everything is priced at £75.00 or higher. I told my friend that we did not need to eat out at such a high priced place just to catch up. She had a big grin and told me we did not have to pay for a thing since she was reviewing this restaurant.

I was not one to argue over a free meal so I ordered lobster and she ordered the same. After chatting and a few drinks later we received the bill. It was over £200.00 and she paid it without caring. After she paid we walked outside and she quickly filled out the secret shopper form and filed it away. A few days after we did it again when she received a new list of places to shop. She then started purchasing things but was nice enough to buy things for me this time. After the day was finished I had a new pair of really nice shoes,a light coat,and a few designer hats. I did not know that Uk Mystery Shopper Jobs were this cool! I had an incredible time and would love to do it all again.
