Do credit card companies receive any insurance compensation when a credit card is filed in a bankruptcy?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

My wife was an employee of a coffee shop who was given a company credit card. The company filed bankruptcy and the card was part of the bankruptcy. Now the bank is coming after her to pay the card off. We received a letter stating that they were withdrawing $2K from our checking account to put towards the card. If the company receives some insurance money for that card, can they also try to get more money from her?

Would a bankruptcy impair my ability to get student loans?

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

I had to drop out of college in my senior year because of financial problems. Now I have student loans coming due and also some credit card bills. I’m just barely managing to make ends meet. Sometimes I have to buy groceries on credit because the money just isn’t there. I’m considering filing bankruptcy to at least get rid of the credit card bills.

My fear is this : If I have a bankruptcy, will I be able to get loans for college? I desperately want to go back to school.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
