How do you think it’s going to affect USA, Europe and the whole world when China surpasses US in economy?

Monday, February 14th, 2011

China already surpassed UK in 2005 and Germany in 2007. It has been estimated that China will overtake US by 2020. By 2030, China will already have TWICE as large economy compared to US. Also, India will surpass Japan to become the third largest economy. How do you think the world will be like when all this happens?
Imagine this: three of the five largest economies in the world will be Asian economies, including nr.1 spot. The European Union will probably go between China and US for a “2.place”(it’s not a country but it’s still a common economy)
When China becomes wealthier and wealthier what if they’ll start spending more money on their military? They’re using 2% of their GDP now compared to US using 4% of its GDP. What if China decides to double the spending to 4%? In 2020 when it’s the wealthiest nation?

How will the new increase in UK green air tax affect tourism in poorer countries?

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

“Air Passenger Tax is paid by all travellers on leaving Britain, with the world split into four bands.

The division includes some anomalies. For instance, all of America is in Band B, whose rate will increase from £45 per person to £60 for those flying economy, or rise from £90 to £120 for those in any other class, including premium economy.

However, the Caribbean is in Band C along with most of south-east Asia and South America. This is despite it being closer to Britain than the west coast of America.

In Band C, duty will go up from £50 to £75 per person. This means a family of four flying to the Caribbean will have to pay £300 in duty compared with the current rate of £200, or £160 last year.

Band D duty will rise from £55 to £85. A retired couple visiting grandchildren in Australia, for example, and flying in premium economy class would, from Monday, pay £340, up from £220. ”

Julie Southern, Virgin Atlantic’s chief commercial officer, said: “Holidays are an essential part of our lives and are valued even more in these difficult economic times. With passengers now being asked to pay up to 10 times more tax since the air duty’s introduction, the annual family holiday will become unaffordable for many.”

“Manny Fontenla-Novoa, Thomas Cook Group’s chief executive, said the company was disappointed that the Government had continued with its plans to increase the duty.

“There is no evidence of this tax having any environmental benefit,” he said. “We will continue to lobby on behalf of our holidaymakers.”

How does disputing a charge on your credit card affect your credit rating?

Monday, December 20th, 2010

I disputed a charge on my credit card several months ago, and it showed up on my credit card. I was wondering how does that affect my score?
I sent about $120 to a guy in England for some paintings, via paypal, and he contacted me once, but then not for a long time after that, and the time I could dispute it with paypal passed by.
I contacted Citibank, the card I charged it on, saying I never received the goods. They put me through a huge ordeal just to get the charges reversed. When the charges were reversed, the guy finally contacted me, and sent me the paintings. I called Citibank saying I got the goods, and to please charge me, so they did.
I was nowhere near my limit when I disputed the charge or afterward. I still have the card too.
I received a notice a couple of months later, on my credit monitoring service that the dispute showed up on my credit report, but it didn’t say if it did anything to the score or not.
I’m somewhat worried, because I might need to dispute another charge (it was a duplicate charge) if the vendor doesn’t call and fix that situation.
